Shillong, April 22: The 59th Raising Day of Headquarters 101 Area was celebrated on 22 April 2022. Headquarters 101Area was raised in 1963 as Headquarters 101 Communication Zone.
During 1966, when Mizoram was gripped with insurgency, the formation was tasked to conduct counter insurgency operations in Mizoram. The formation did a commendable job of winning the hearts and minds of the local populace and continued to perform this task till 1969.
During the 1971 War, the formation took active part in combat operations in Sylhet & Mymensingh Districts of the erstwhile East Pakistan (Now Bangladesh) and was the first to reach Dhaka, thereby earning the accolade “First in Dhaka”.
To commemorate the occasion Lieutenant General KC Panchnathan, AVSM, General Officer Commanding 101 Area, laid a wreath at the War Memorial “Rhino Prerna Sthal’, Shillong to pay homage to the gallant heroes. He also conveyed felicitations and best wishes to all ranks, veterans and civilian employees and families of HQ 101 Area.
