The MTDC to get Rs.20 cores from the ministry tourism to develop Umiam lake resort

Shillong, September 25: The Chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) Mr David A Nongrum said that the ministry tourism government of India sanctions Rs.20 cores to develop Umiam Lake resort.

The Chairman of the MTDC, told SP News Agency that the overall occupancy of all the hotels in Shillong is only 1600 bed this has made tourist coming from outside the state very difficult to get accommodation for them.

The MTDC is encouraging people to come out with the home stay facilities so that tourist coming to our state will not face accommodation problem. The inflow of tourist to our state is increasing from year to year.

From the MTDC had put up many proposal with the tourism ministry government of India, and he was happy that the Umiam Lake Resort was sanction and this will boost the tourism sector in the state.

Tourism only will change the economy of the state, he cited an example of Sikkim and Goa this to state have provide maximum employment to the youth on the tourism sector.
