Two persons were arrested, 218 cattle seized from by the BSF in the IB with Bangladesh

Shillong,Risaw 19: Today  the vigilant troops of Border Security Force seized a huge haul of cattle while being illegally transported by the cattle smugglers for further taking them to Bangladesh from India. 218 cattle were seized from the bordering areas of Meghalaya by BSF troops.

The troops of Border Security Force along with Meghalaya Police once again showing their extra vigil on International border, acting on a tip off, in the area Nawkyrnot Phlangtyngur under Pynurlsa, about suspected movement of cattle loaded trucks, carried out anti-cattle smuggling operation.

The joint team intercepted two vehicles while moving towards International border. As soon as the BSF team challenged them, the smugglers stopped the vehicles and tried to flee away but two of them were nabbed by the joint team. Two Indian cattle smugglers were apprehended by BSF were later identified as Amos Nongrum from  Saitbakon and Pynbiand Sohkhlet from Dewsaw. From this two persons they seized 30 cattles.

In another incident, BSF troops deployed at Tuka, East Khasi Hills seized 01 cattle loaded truck alongwith 08 cattle worth more than rupees 13.7 Lacs while being smuggled to Bangladesh from India. In other special operation by BSF troops in the same area,  96 cattle worth more than rupees 11.5 Lacs were seized while proceeding towards Bangladesh. But smugglers managed to flee from the spot taking advantage of darkness and thick vegetation. After thorough search of  the area, BSF troops recovered huge numbers of cattle.

Border Security Force has been continuously in its drive against the cattle smugglers who are adopting different innovative ways of cattle smuggling and putting extra vigil on the border to prevent and curb their nefarious activities. The BSF has been achieving a great success in countering the cattle smuggling and apprehension of smugglers.

BSF intensified its operations on Indo-Bangladesh Border by increasing manpower to prevent Trans-border crimes as well as possible influx of Rohingya Muslims. The overall seizure affected by BSF troops during last week at International border of Meghalaya was worth more than 1.24 Crores including 363 cattle and other contraband items.
