Union home minister inform Mr Conrad that reports are being awaited from State Govt

Shillong, July 29: Garo Hills MP Mr Conrad Sangma, met the Hon’ble Home Minister Government of India, Mr Rajnath Singh and briefed him about the current flood situation in North East India in general and Garo Hills, Meghalaya in particular.

Mr Sangma also requested the Central Government to send an Inter Ministerial Delegation to the North East to assess the situation so that accordingly steps could be taken to help the people who have been affected due to the heavy floods.

The Hon’ble Home Minister informed Mr Sangma that reports are being awaited from the respective State Governments and once there is a request for an inter  Ministerial Delegation made by the State Governments then accordingly the decision will be made. In the mean time he expressed concern and worries about the situation and assured all possible help to the flood affected areas.

Mr Sangma had also written a letter to the State Government, addressed to the Deputy Chief Minister, requesting the immediate release of payments to suppliers who had given relief materials in the floods which occurred in the year 2014.

He stated that since the payments had not been cleared since 2014 for old supplies made, the suppliers were not willing to supply any more materials. As a result the public at large especially those who had been affected by the flood are suffering, as most of their houses are partially or fully submerged in water.

He urged the State Government to release the pending dues so that supplies could reach the people at the earliest. A copy of the same letter had also been sent to the Hon’ble Home Ministers office and the Office of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, for necessary action from their end.
