Shillong, March 07: The Meghalaya Home minister Mr H D R Lyngdoh, in his replay to the special motion, on crimes against women and children in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, he said that “I am home minister but not a watch dog”.
On the allegation made against him as the home minister that he should resign, the home minister said that “ I have done no wrong, I have no knowledge , the law will take it on course, if anyone found quality, either my kin action will be taken”.
The Home minister in his replay said that the crime can be committed any time anywhere and cannot be predict, inspite of many challenges the police has taken many step to combat, crimes against women can be in public, mental, emotional and this has become a serious concern.
The government has issued an order that all crimes against women, be transfer to fast tract court, the government has also set up Anti Human Trafficking unit, in four district and the proposal has been sent that this will also be set up in all the District.
The government from time to time sent police officer for seminars to sensitizes the officer on the issue, Women police station have been set up, the government also seeking information from Job Placement agency, under the scheme safe and secure Shillong, CCTV has been install and even Cyber crimes unit has been set up.
To deal with the investigation, new building of the forensic Laboratory in near completion, expert to handle the laboratory has been sent for training and few more machine is yet to come. The government has also entrusted to NEHU to do the researched on the issued and soon the help line number 181 with the social welfare department will be made functional.
The minister thank the mover of the motion Mr Paul Lyngdoh, the members participate in the motion, the minister assured the house that from the government has taken all step to combat crimes against women, the home minister said that all the suggestion made my all members will be look into it.
