The District Administration of EJH District today demolished two illegal Coke Factories  

Shillong, July 12: Today under the supervision of Shri J. Shylla, MCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills, demolished chimneys of the 2 (Two) Coke Factories which were constructed without having Consent to Established (CTE) from Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board.

The team had representatives from the office of Superintendent of Police, East Jaintia Hills, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board, and District Commerce and Industries Centre.

The details of the the coke factories which were demolished are as following: 1. M/S Halari Coke Plant. Sutnga Elaka, East Jaintia Hills District. 2. M/S Shauryansi Coke. Wah Samsier, Sutnga, East Jaintia Hills District.

The exercise was carried out in pursuance to this Office Order No: EJHD/GENL.261/COKE/Pt.IV/2023/151 Dated 7th July, 2023 and Order No: EJHD/GENL.261/COKE/Pt.IV/2023/152 Dated 11th July, 2023.

These orders were issued recently by the office of the undersigned as there was a likelihood that these illegal under-construction factories might attempt to operate clandestinely using locally sourced coal and thus facilitating illegal coal mining within the district.

The demolition was carried out by blasting through explosives. While M/S Halari Coke Plant was demolished at around 12: 00 PM, M/S Shauransi Coke was demolished at around 3:30PM. All safety precautions were observed during the process and no injuries were reported.

The demolition exercise will continue over the next few weeks against all illegally constructed Coke Plants within the district. Said MR.  A. Baranwal, IAS the  Deputy Commissioner East Jaintia Hills District Khliehriat.
