Shillong, July 24: The first Meghalaya Inter-school Taekwondo championship 2023 was held at APS, Umroi Military Station on 22nd and 23rd July 2023. The championship was organised by Army Public School, Umroi Military Station in collaboration with Meghalaya Taekwondo Association and Taekwondo Association of Ri-Bhoi District.
The Championship opened with a grand ceremony held at Red Horn Auditorium, Umroi Military Station, in the presence of full pack audience, which included martial artist from across Meghalaya, Officers and dignitaries from army stationed at Umroi and students.
Mrs. Madhuri Shende, Chairperson, Family Welfare Organisation, 24 Mountain Brigade, graced the ceremony with her kind presence and declared the Championship open.
During the ceremony, the official song of the championship was sung amidst an excited and roaring audience. The song was written by Ajit Saikia and its music composed by Baiaineh Kharumlong, teachers of Army Public School, Umroi.
Altogether, 412 students from 96 schools from across Meghalaya participated in the championship. The Championship was held in 3 age categoties, under 14, under 17 and under 19 years for both boys and girls. The Championship trophy was lifted by Kendriya Vidyalaya, Happy Valley, Shillong.
The Championship was conducted under the supervision of the Meghalaya Taekwondo Association and the Taekwondo Association of Ri-Bhoi District.
Several officials of the Association including the General Secretary of Meghalaya Taekwondo Association, Mr Jadumani Singh and President of Taekwondo Association of Ri-Bhoi District Mr Manoj Singh were present during the conduct of the Championship.
They expressed their satisfaction on the conduct of the whole process of the Championship and hoped that the event will further promote sports, especially Taekwondo in Meghalaya.
