Shillong, July 26: The Khasi Student’s Union (KSU) of Shillong Mihngi Circle lodge a complaint with the State Power Minister Mr. Abu Taher Mondal on erratic power supply in the New Shillong Township.
The KSU in the complaints submitted to the Power Minister that they would like to share our grievances on behalf of the public with regards to the anomalies concerning the electricity supply in the region of the proposed New Shillong Township and its adjoining areas.
First and foremost, the region now housed numerous institutions both of state and central governments apart from various financial and business establishments.
Furthermore, the number of households increases rapidly with the passage of time. However, the infrastructure of the MeECL concern with the supply of electricity remains stagnant with no upgradation.
The KSU Shillong Mihngi Circle observes that with the increasing households in thevast region, the MeECL should adopted certain measures so as to ensure uninterrupted power supply.
At present there is only one station located in NEIGRIHMS catering to a number of localities and villages from Lumkhyriem, Mawpat, Itshyrwat, Saitsiej, Mawlong, Lumkynring, Mawkasiang, Diengiong, Siejiong, Tynring, Mawpdang, Diengpasoh, Mynring.
The other villages bordering both the districts of Ri Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills. The Union is of the opinion that more stations and sub-stations should be installed so as to ensured electricity is evenly and amply distributed to the consumers.
At present, only one lineman has to attend to all the above areas which is an arduous task for an individual. Frequent power cuts took time to be addressed as this lone lineman has to cover a vast area. Therefore, we appeal to you to kindly deployed two or three more linemen to provide service to the region.
The Union also appeals to your office to upgrade the transformers installed in the region and to upgrade the single-phase provision to three phase so as to tackle the low supply of current in different villages and localities.
It is worth mentioning that after a thorough discussion with different officials of the MeECL, it is learnt that the residents of the region are regular in terms of payment of their electricity bills without any delay.
Also, after a deliberation with the officials on the plight of the residents of the region with regards to low quality and frequent cuts of electricity, the Union decides to put forth our grievances with your office.
With this the Union expresses its full faith that our grievances will be positively addressed by your office so as to ensure that the consumers from the New Shillong Township and its adjoining areas are not bereft of their basic amenity, the memorandum was sign by Sonstar Nongkhlaw President and June Mimmy Nongdhar Vice President Khasi Students’ Union Shillong Mihngi Circle.
