A city base magician, crowned winner in a contest titled ‘Magicians Day 2016’ held at Guwahati

Shillong, September  12: A well-known city base magician was on September 9, crowned winner in a contest titled ‘Magicians Day 2016’ held at Guwahati Assam in which magicians from across the North East participated.

The competition was organized by the North East Magic Academy (NEMA) in remembrance of Jadu Samrat Hussain a magician from Assam on his one year death anniversary.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, winner of the competition John Lanong said, “I’m pleased to have won this competition as there were many talented magicians from neighbouring North East states who had also participated in it and especially because me binging a Shillong lad winning such a competition despite the fact that there is no Magic School in the city makes me even more proud of my achievements.”

Sending a positive message to young budding magicians in the state to achieve similar feat, he said, “The field of magic is endless and the scope is high however the youths of the state aspiring to become magicians needs to put in tremendous hard work and believe in themselves as it is also an avenue to earn a living particularly with the lack of employment in the state.”

It may be reminded that Lanong was the first contestant to win the talent search competition held in Shillong in the year 2015 called ‘Just Do Anything’. He was also the first Khasi magician to drive a vehicle blindfolded in which the stunt was aired in a local TV channel.

He informed that he started gaining interest in the art of magic in the year 2008 and began to learn and practice magic by himself everyday for 3-4 hours.

The key to Lanong’s success in the competition is due to the fact that he was able to mesmerize the judges both in the Stage Magic and Close Up Magic.
