Allegations leveled against the Irish Puja Committee baseless: Shullai

Shillong, November 01: The Deputy Speaker of  Meghalaya Legislative Assembly who is also the president of the Irish Shullai Puja Committee, Bishnupur has brushed aside all allegation made to the committee he said it’s all bassless.

Recently it’s has come up in the news in misusing of the Seng khasi sacred flag on the day of immersion of goddess Durga. The allegation was leveled against them by the seng Khasi Raid Laban just a day after the immersion was over stating that the Puja Committee kept the sacred flag of seng Khasi at the hands of goddess Durga besides it was also alleged that the flag was  immersed along with the goddess at the river Wahumkhrah

 While addressing a press conference Mr  Sanbor Shullai said all allegations leveled against them on the misusing of the Seng Khasi sacred flag is false and baseless.  He also said that the Puja Committee does not have any idea that such flag was used during the celebration and was deeply surprised when they saw the allegations which came up in vernacular newspaper.

He also informed that on spot verification by the magistrate it was never found out that the Committee used the flag of any religious groups or organizations, as per their knowledge the Puja Committee which was set up in the name of his late mother they have never resolved to use any flag or symbols of any religions or of any organisation as the Puja is purely a religious matter of the believers professing Hinduism.

However, Shullai informed that all allegations are strongly believed to be purely political motivated by some handy work vested interest persons and their political move is to tarnish the image of the Puja Committee.  Meanwhile, Shullai said that the Puja Committee met the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district and submitted a representation to him seeking his intervention on the matter.
