Shillong, June 05: As part of the world environment day celebrations a two day tree plantation drive was organized by Assam Regimental Centre on 04 & 05 today for this year.
On the 04 of this month tree plantation was conducted in the Mawsbuit Training Area and Firing range of Assam Regimental Centre incorporating the local villagers and forest officials and today the event was conducted in Hill View Secondary School run by the Centre and in the areas of family accommodation.
In a statement issued by defence spokesperson Group Captain Amit Mahajan said that hundreds of saplings were planted and awareness lectures were conduct over these two days of tree plantation drive to educate the school children, troops and their families and the local villagers on the importance of tree plantation to encourage them to continue this effort in future to achieve the aim of Green India.
