BPF welcomes Pillai committee for Bodoland to study the viability of a separate state

Tura, Mar 2: Bodoland People’s Front, Rajya Sabha MP, Biswajit Daimary today thanked government of India for constituting a one-man expert committee headed by former union home secretary, G K Pillai to study the viability of a separate state of Bodoland.

Daimary was in Tura to attend the 6th International Bodo festival here.

“New Delhi has finally recognized the problem of the Bodos. We believe that Pillai will study and examine the demand for the creation of Bodoland. We are confident that Bodoland area has all feasibility – be it population or area and Pillai will recommend creation of a separate state”, said Daimary.

He told that the aspiration of the people lies in the creation of Bodoland.

“The Bodos have been neglected and suppressed for years. It is time that the government considers the demand for the prosperity of the region, which needs to be developed at par with other areas of the country”, said Daimary.

He also welcomed union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde’s assurance for political level talks on the issue of Bodoland state after the Lok Sabha election.

All Bodo Students Union led by Pramod Boro and other organizations demanding a Bodoland state has opposed the one-man expert committee by the centre.

However, Lok Sabha MP from Kokrajhar, Sansuma Khunggur Bwiswmuthiary has remarked that the formation of an expert committee is a positive move from the Centre. He also urged opposing groups, including All Bodo Students Union and other organization to rethink on their attitude.

Several Bodo organizations in Assam are demanding creation of a separate Bodoland state on the lines of Telangana. The centre on Friday told Bodo groups that political-level talks will be held after the Lok Sabha election to facilitate formation of a new state.(SP News)
