Commissioning of EVMs held at Ampati today

Ampati May 6: The commissioning of electronic voting machines (EVMs) for by-election to 2-Tura LS constituency was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office premises, South West Garo Hills, Ampati, in the presence of the representatives of political parties, even as the second round training for the polling personnel concluded today.

Earlier, the first-level checking (FLC) of EVMs was done in the presence of district election officials and representatives of political parties where mock poll was carried out on five percent of the total number of EVMs, while training for Micro Observers was given by the General Observer. First and second randomization process of EVMs have also taken place in the past two days.

Meanwhile, in a preventive law and order action by the District Police to ensure peaceful, free and fair polls, a total of 66 arms have been deposited and 22 persons have been bound down under sections 107/ 109/116 of CrPC, till date. Altogether, 2250 litres of country-made liquor have been detected and destroyed, while 25 bottles of 765 ml IMFL have been seized by the police.

One of the Flying Squad teams in the district has also seized 550 litres of country made liquor from two locations under Ampati constituency.

Various cells and committees constituted for the conduct of by-election on May 16, next have been functioning since the past two weeks and continue with their respective tasks for smooth conduct of election.
