DC, Ri Bhoi District has under SWM Rules, 2016 prohibited waste generators from throwing

Shillong, June 16:  The Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District has under Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 prohibited waste generators from throwing, burning or burying solid waste generated by him and not to litter i.e., throw or dispose of any waste such as paper, water bottles, liquor bottles, soft drink cans, tetra packs, fruit peel, wrappers etc or burn or burry waste on the streets, open public spaces, drains, water bodies and to segregate the waste at source as prescribed under these rules and handover the segregated waste to the  authorized waste pickers or waste collectors.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed the street sweepers not to burn tree leaves but to store them separately and handover to the waste collector or agency authorized by the local body. The Deputy Commissioner also prohibits open burning of waste on lands including landfill sites.

He urges the local authorities anf body to ensure compliance to the provisions of Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and order of the judgement passed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on the subject matter.
