Shillong, June 28: After receiving notice that some persons dump garbage along the stretch of Umiam View Point and along the National Highway GS Road, leading to pollution of the environment and posing health hazards to the people, the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills, has promulgated an Order under Section 133 CrPC declaring dumping of garbage along the mentioned stretch as an act of public nuisance.
Anyone found doing so will be prosecuted and vehicles used would be confiscated by the authorities. This Order comes into force with immediate effect and anyone desires to file objections to this Order may do so by the 5th July, 2017 lest it is made absolute. The District authorities also call for support and cooperation of stakeholders including the local authority and vendors to ensure cleanliness of the area.
