East Jaintia Hills, Tyrsad girls storm into semis of Assam Rifles CAPF U-19

Shillong, May 8: East Jaintia Hills District Sports Association and Tyrsad Higher Secondary School qualified for the semifinals of the Assam Rifles CAPF Under-19 Football Talent Hunt Tournament for Meghalaya here on Friday with convincing victories for both sides.

In the first match at Third Ground, Polo, Tyrsad defeated Lawsohtun SC 6-0, but they were pipped to the top spot in Group B after East Jaintia Hills overwhelmed Mawpdang SC 14-0 to take first place on goal difference. Both teams had won two games each while the match between them had ended in a draw.

The opening encounter of the day saw Iawanlang Nongbet score four goals and assist in the other two for Tyrsad. The No. 11 began things by scoring in the 22nd minute and then providing a peach of a corner kick for her team mate Felisha Fancon to convert two minutes later. Another two minutes later and Nongbet delivered an identical corner kick and Fancon bagged her second goal of the match.

Nongbet then claimed a fourth goal for her side just before half time in the 60-minute match. She returned in the second half and scored from an impossibly tight angle deep on the right flank in the 38th minute, before swerving past two defenders to get the ball into the back of the net and make it 6-0 in the 52nd minute.

In the other game, Aidisha Shadap scored an incredible double hat-trick, netting six goals, while Chemis Bareh produced four and Rushia Dkhar three on the way to East Jaintia Hills’ convincing victory. The other goal of the match was scored by H Suting in the 47th minute.

Bareh started things off in only the second minute with a nice run into the box and easy tap-in and she doubled the lead six minutes later. Dkhar’s first (11th minute) was a header after the ball rebounded off the opposition goalkeeper, while Bareh’s hat-trick goal (14th) was also a header.

The goals came thick and fast as Mawpdang struggled to fend off East Jaintia Hills. Dkhar scored her final two goals in the 15th and 17th minutes, while Bareh’s last followed in the 19th. After missing out on a few chances early in the game, Shadap came into her own later on, pulling off her massive tally in the space of just 15 minutes (27th, 28th, 37th, 39th, 41st, 42nd).

Tuesday will see the final two boys’ matches of Group B at Third Ground. The first, at 9:00am, is all about pride as Rangdajied UFC and KV Laitkor, who lost their opening games, look to get some points on the board.

The second is a battle to see who finishes at the top of the group and will be contested between St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School and West Jaintia Hills District Sports Association at 11:30am. The two teams have the same number of points, but the latter are leading with a goal difference of +23, compared to St Anthony’s +18.
