Govt should immediately shut down all industries who have no effluent treatment plant: Sajay

Shillong, April, 18: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya has admitted recently in the Assembly House that there are as many as 16 industrial units which do not have effluent treatment plant, but they are still allowed to function till date.

Upon a survey it was found that from virgo cement in Garo Hills to various industries in byrnihat , umiam barapani to jaintia cement in jaintia hills and the star cement and others in elaka narpuh , none of them have effluent treatment plant which releases zero toxic to environment, but the strange issue here is, the Government is adamant and determined to adopt its policy of watch and weep at the abuse and hazards caused by these industries to the environment and mother nature there is absolutely no action taken to protect and preserve environment and various water bodies in the state .

The Meghalaya state pollution control board ( MPSCB ) nees to open up its eyes and act , and not just wait till the complaints comes only to give a clean chit to the industries . It is an open fact that coloration of rivers in jaintia hills starts after the coming of cement plants but till date MPSCB is yet to discover the fact about that.

The Government should immediately shut down all the defaulters from Garo Hills to Jaintia Hills and until the time they have effluent treatment plant in place, none of them should be allowed to function. There will be a close watch on the action taken by the government on this issue. Said Mr Sajay Laloo in the press statement issue to media houses today.
