Huge turnout at the Police Public Outreach programme at Ramchenga in SGH District

Shillong, February 06: Today, a huge turnout at the Police Public Outreach programme that was held at Ramchenga village under Sibbari Police Out Post, in South Garo Hills District, which has been one of the most vulnerable stretches regarding kidnappings for last many years. This is an additional anti-kidnapping effort by District Police through reaching out to the people of the area with appeal for cooperation and counseling them to desist from providing any assistance to the criminal elements in the area.

This programme also focused to give a clarion call to the youth of that and nearby localities to approach the local Police or SP Baghmara office for any help, assistance and guidance. They were especially educated on the evils and futility of joining militant organizations and criminals for easy money.

A call was also made to the parents, teachers, church leaders and other prominent persons of the society to share the joint responsibility of guiding and supervising the gullible youth.The meeting was attended by more than 1,500 persons from Sibbari, Ramchenga, Kapasipara, Dumnikura, Telekali, Kolapara, Gasuapara and nearby areas.

The interactive programme was addressed by Local Reverend, Pastors, Nokmas, Teachers, Village Elders, Ladies as well as Senior Police Personnel including the officer incharge  of the area, the  DSPs and SP Mr A Mishara.

In the meeting they have form a Peace Committees with members of the local society to take responsibility for activating social mechanisms to ensure peace in local areas.
