Shillong, Oct 31: The General Secretary of the Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) Mr. Kyllang Thongni stated that more than hundreds of its members will be leaving for Delhi tomorrow to participate in the Sit In Demonstration that will he held on the 3rd November 2023 at Jantar Mantar at the national capital New Delhi.
The HANM has taken this decision to go to the national capital to hold the protest on the two issue, that the Union Government has not show any green signal to include the Khasi and Garo languages to the Eight Schedule of the Indian Constitution as adopted by the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on the 27th September 2018.
The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has adopted the resolution on the 19th December 2019 to implement the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act, 1873 to protect the people of Meghalaya from influx, but the Union Government has keep mum on the issue till date.
The Government of Meghalaya has sent the two resolutions to the Union Government to include Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India and to Implement the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation Act 1873 in Meghalaya to protect the People of Meghalaya from influx.
The people of Meghalaya has high hope that the BJP Government at the Centre will respected what the people of Meghalaya needs through the resolution adopted in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly where all the 60 Members endorse with one voice, but till date no green signal was seen that the Union Government is contemplating to implement the two resolution in Meghalaya.
HANM one of the NGOs from Meghalaya felt that this issued not to leave only on the elected public representative, the organisation has taken this decision to go and demonstration in the national capital ta show to the Union Government that the two issues is not political issue but the need of the people of Meghalaya.
