In a joint operation Police rescued Mr Arabindra from Karimganj, Assam

Shillong, September 16: In a joint operation of both the police of Meghalaya and Assam has rescued Arabindra Kr Das, 77 years  from Ramkrishna Nagar, Karimganj in Assam.

The Superintendent of Police (City) Mr Vivek Syiem in the press statement said that  on  26th July, 2016 Smti. Sunita Das has file an FIR  that her husband Mr. Arabindra Kr Das,77 years  left home for morning walk on 25th July 2016 at about 5 am in the morning and did not return home.

On the same day at about 7:15 pm, that her daughter Smti. Sampa Das residing at Pune inform that she received a call that her father has been kidnapped, and the kidnapper has demanded for a ransom of Rs. Two crores.

The police had registered the case with the Sadar PS vide Case No. 214(7)16 U/S 364(A)/34 IPC. As the matter was sensitive in nature no publicity was made as it would endanger the life of the victim. The SOT along with Assam Police made joint initiatives to trace the victim and the persons behind it.

On 15th September 2016, after a gap of 52 days, the victim was rescued by Assam Police while being taken in a van. In this connection one person namely Nurul Haque of Gamari, Ramkrishna Nagar, Karimganj who was with the victim has been arrested.

No ransom was paid to the abductors, the success in handling the case has also been due to the co-operation of the family members. Investigation is on to nab the rest of those involved.
