Shillong, July 16: Inspite of heavy rain, today hundreds of people from the south west khasi hills District attended the public meeting call by the Joint Action Committee of Social Organisation (JACSO) of the District to opposed the propose uranium mining in the Mawthabah Area.
After the different speakers from the different social organization speak, they have adopted a resolution that the government, should build up single lane road from Nongstoin To Ranikor Via Mawthabah, all villages in the area should have road connectivity with block toping .
For the development of the area the government should open Community and Rural Development Block , all road in from Nongstoin to Wahkaji should be blcoktop without taking the assistant from the UCIL and the UCIL should closed down the topic of Uranium Mining since the area has got heavy rainfall in monsoon season and it is under the earthquake prone area.
The Chairman of the JACSO, Mr Wallambok Syiemiong, sent a clear message to the Chief Minister that the JACSO is not opposing Uranium mining in Khasi Hills but even in the Garo Hills also, if the UCIL want to do mining in Garo Hills, minening of Uranium it will cause health hazard to the people.
Others speaker in the public meeting in clued the Genenral secretary of the JACSO Mr Robet J Kharjahrin , Mr Poling Lyngdoh chairman of SSSS and the prominent members are Mr Kordor Kharlyngdoh President of HANM , Mr Khrawbok Snaitang, president HNYF, Mr Sanbor Lyngdoh president SPDF , Mr Bankit Syiemlieh Vice President WKSU and Mr Debarlin Thongni, president, President MIYF .
