Internet will create a buzz about Syntung village to attract global tourists:MLCU

Shillong May 06: With the objective to enhance the knowhow and practical skills of the community  in the  village of Syntung,  Mawkynrew Block,  East Khasi Hills,  about tourism and it’s sustainable practices,  the Department of Tourism and Travel  Management,  Martin Luther Christian University,  on 5th May,  2017 organised an awareness program on ‘Tourism sustainable practices’  in the village.

The awareness program was organised in collaboration with the NSS MLCU unit with the support of the Dorbar Shong,  Syntung village. The students of the department gave a very detailed presentation on the importance of learning how to protect and conserve the tourist sights of the village so as to help the economy of the present and the future generations.

They students also stressed on the use of the technologies like the Internet to create a buzz about their village so as to attract not only national but global tourists.  The students also added that it is important to maintain cleanliness of the village and a good rapport with the tourists but at the same time maintaining their culture and tradition. A short role play on the importance of positive hospitality towards the tourists was also performed by the students.  Tribal Arunachali and Khasi dances were also performed.

Speaking at the function,  the Rangbah Shnong of the village,  Mr. Phit Mukhim said that the awareness program has been most helpful,  the village has gained a lot of attention because of all the modern technology and hence,  he added,  that such learning opportunities are what can help the village to gain economically and also help the community work together for its betterment. After the programme the students and faculty member were also given a special tour of the famous Wah Rashi falls.
