Jowai set an example, immersion of Idols done in a water tank to avoid polution

This year in Jowai, “We have discontinued the practice of immersion of Durga idol in Myntdu river. We have fabricated a special 8 x 8 x 4 feet iron sheet container cost of which was borne under Chief Minister’s Youth for Green Campaign” write the Deputy Commissioner in the Facebook.

The fire brigade people filled it with water. After the ceremonial touching of the river water, idols were brought back to the bank and were immersed in the tank. The tank has 3 inch valve at the bottom. Tomorrow after the idols melt the water will be released to 3*3*4 feet soak pit. All the water will be drained to the pit and solid waste will be dumped in the municipal dump yard.

Hence zero pollution to the river from which Jowai and many villages get drinking water without compromising on the religious sentiments of the people. Some youths in the melee floated an idol in the river, it was caught in the downstream and brought back.

None of the puja materials including flowers, banana leaves were thrown in the water. Devotees also cleaned the river bank after the ceremony. Thanks to the staff of Fire brigade, Police, Traffic Police and Jowai Municipal Board for all the necessary arrangements.
