Late Prof Martin  took three years leave without pay from St Anthony’s college to joint politic

Shillong, Dec 16: In the past few days, there has been a number of news reports on the issue arising from the notification from the Education Department, Meghalaya, barring teachers, lecturers of Government Aided Schools and Colleges from taking part in politics.

Groups opposing such notification have in the process quoted  and recalled as an example  our father (late) Prof Martin N Majaw, former MLA of Mawhati Constituency, including others who have joined participated in politics from the academic profession.

“In this context we would like to clarify and set the record straight that prior and during the Hill State period our late father popularly known then as Prof Martin Narayan Majaw,  took three years leave without pay from St Anthony’s college”, said Mr. John Kharshiing son of late Prof Majaw.

To support, assit and join the Hill State movement as convenor and Joint Secretary of the All Party Hill Leaders Conference (APHLC). Subsequently prior to contesting the first MLA general elections as an independent in 1972 he resigned from st Anthony’s College.
