Shillong, April 25: The All India Public Sector Sports Control Board (AIPSSCB) established in the year 1987 is the apex body for conducting sports activities amongst Public Sector Undertakings, Autonomous Government Bodies, besides helping the sports persons to perform at National & International level by providing them required assistance through member organizations.
Leading Public Sector Undertakings like Airports Authority of India, , Oil India, Food Corporation of India, Life Insurance Corporation of India, BSNL, Air India, Canara Bank, Reserve Bank of India etc. who actively promote sports, are members of the AIPSSCB. Currently 25 organizations are active members of the Board
The Board through its member organizations has made phenomenal contribution towards the promotion of Sports in the country. The contribution of AIPSSCB and its member organizations have been highlighed when nine (9) officers of ONGC and IOC were conferred with Arjuna and Dhyanchand Awards for 2021
AIPSSCB organizes tournaments in various sports disciplines such as Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Carrom, Chess, Cricket, Football, Golf, Hockey, Kabaddi, Table Tennis and Volleyball at various venues in the country.
Award are also given ot the best undertakings every year on the occasion of AGM of the AIPSSCB. In the Award Function which is graced by reading sportspersons of the country.
The chess is one of the popular game in which there is large participation from member organizations. The quality of the tournament is also very high in view of several reputed national players participating in it. The event being conducted in the lovely city of Shillong has further attracted large participation. In the said tournament following 10 teams from member Public Sector Undertakings consisting of 57 players.
The central government PSU who are participating are Bank of Baroda, Bharat Heavy Electricals ltd, Coal India Limited, Central Warehousing Corporatin, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd, Life Insurance Corporation of India, Mazagon Duck Shipbuilders Ltd,Reserve Bank of India, Union Bank of India.
The AIPS Chess Tournament attracts participation of leading players of the country have represented their employer Public Sector company. Further, the upcoming Chess Players who are associated with the member PSUs by way of employment, scholarship, contract get the much needed experience while playing with National and International players and get a platform to showcase their prowess.
The Closing ceremonies and prize distribution function was held at Hotel Pinewood on 24th Aparil, 2023, Shri Dr. B.D.R.Tiwari, IAS – Commissioner and Secretary to the Govenor, Meghalaya was the Chief Guest.
Other dignatories were Shri Gian Batra, General Secretary – All India Public Sector Sports Control Board, Shri Rishi Kant Bangwal, Airport Director, Shillong , Shri Ramesh Sachdeva, Consultant, All India Public Sector Sports Control Board and Shri Puranjan Das, Chief General Manager, State Convention Centre, Shillong.
Final Results of the Chess Tournament, the winner of the Tournament is Life Insurance Corporation of India, the first runner up Reserve Bank of India, and the third runner up Bank of Baroda.
The players who get the best palyer Baord-A Mr. Sri Ram Jha, best palyer Baord-B Mr. Matta Vinay Kumar, best Player of Board-C Smti. Kiran Mamisha Mohanty, best Player of Board-D Smti. Swati Ghate and best player of Board-E Mr. Mahender Marri.
The SPECIAL PRIZES were given to talented and upcoming chess players from Member PSUs who has recently joined the Board, Mazagon Douck Shippbuilders Ltd Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engg. Ltd and Central Warehousing Dcorpdoration, said Mr . Gian Batra general Secretary of the AIPSSCB in the press statement.
