Shillong, Nov 24: The Meghalaya Confederation of Academic Welfare (MCAW) comprising of various civil society groups like COMSO (Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations) and other enlightened Teachers under the banner of MeTTA and Students like Kiang Nongbah Govt. College Students’ Union has expressed deep concerns at the rapid deterioration of academic and educational condition of NEHU.
The MCAW sincerely believes that since 2015 under the totally irresponsible and failed leadership of Prof.S.K.Srivastava, NEHU has plummeted deep into a bottomless pit of decay, stalemate, insensitivity and all round failure in all fronts.
The forum alleged that since 2015, wheelers dealers and sycophants have taken over the high mantle of NEHU and have set in a regimen of mediocrity, inefficiency and in transparency to the utter detriment of students, the larger society, teachers and every section of society of Meghalaya and North Eastern region.
Given this, the civil society is compelled to ask for removal of Prof.S.K.Srivastava and his team of irresponsible cronies so that NEHU can rise up again. It is also to be asserted here, in no way Prof.S.K.Srivastava and his cronies be considered for any reappointment.
Indeed it needs sound leadership from well qualified professor from local matrilineal society or any ither home grown high achiever to restore normalcy and academic harmony, collegiality and excellence back in NEHU.
Towards this, Prof. S.K. Srivastava needs to be defenestrated and all his academic, financial and administrative acts needs an immediate investigation by competent authorities.
In this context MCAW demands completion of VC selection orocess without further delay and a qualified lical tribal Professor in line with local cultural ethos be appointed.
Further the MCAW pledges to uphold the cause of students, teachers and society in general and shall further rights of local communities. MCAW believes that improvement of NEHU will be the most important step in a chain of transforming the academic arena of Meghalaya for the good of the state and region.
The Forum has elected Mr Roykupar Synrem, who is also the Secretary of COMSO as the Convener of the Forum and Nickman Ch Marak as Co-Convener of the said forum.
