Mission Unite to enroll left out voters launched at Ampati for Garo Hills District

Ampati, July 2: Mission Unite – You ‘N’ I towards Enrolment , a special drive to enroll left out voters, was launched at Ampati in the presence of South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Cyril Diengdoh, Superintendent of Police Bobby W. Momin, district officials, senior citizens and young voters on Saturday.

It may be mentioned that the Election Commission of India has launched a special drive from 1st July this year for maximization of registration of eligible electors with focus on left out eligible young citizens in age group of 18-19. During the special drive, which will be completed by 31st July 2017, special attention would be given on following two activities by election officials in all state, namely receiving Form 6 for enrolment of new electors and removal of names of registered dead electors, if found any, from the electoral rolls.

In his keynote address, South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner  and DEO, Cyril Diengdoh spoke on aims and objective of Mission Unite, informing that Election Commission of India has tied up with Facebook for special drive to enroll the left out electors. He expressed concern that the District deficit is 2161 which is much lower compared to other district while the state’s deficit is one lakh and stressed the participation of youths in propagating the message for enrolment of all left out voters.

He however expressed happiness that the percentage of turnout of voters was higher compared to other districts whether in Assembly or Parliament elections, which shows the awareness among the voters of South West Garo Hills District. He also released a pamphlet on Mission Unite on the occasion. Earlier, ADC (Election), H D B Sangma highlighted the aims and objectives of Mission Unite and the target that have to be achieved during the campaign of Mission Unite.

EAC (Election) Ampati, M.R.Marak, EAC, D.A.Sangma, one of the young voters, Rangkan B. Marak and Secretary, Mothers’ Union Ampati, Porbelly Sangma also spoke on the occasion, while ASE, Ampati, S. Banai gave a power-point presentation on Mission Unite. The launching of Mission Unite was also marked by presentations of songs by local youths and members of Mothers’ Union befitting to the occasion.
