MSRLS conducted vocational training on poultry farming under DNLP at Ampati

Ampati, June 26: As part of the District Nutrition Leadership Program (DNLP), the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS), Ampati, organized a two-day Vocational Training on Poultry Farming on June 25–26, 2026, with a special focus on layer breed rearing for egg production.

The training was conducted for selected proactive Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and Village Organizations (VOs) located near selected Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) across South West Garo Hills.

The programme was held in convergence with the District Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department, South West Garo Hills, at the Vocational Training Centre, Ampati. Around 60 participants representing nearly 60 households took part in the training.

Resource persons from the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department conducted technical sessions covering the importance of poultry farming as a sustainable livelihood activity, selection and management of high-yielding layer breeds, feeding and nutritional management at different growth stages, vaccination schedules, disease prevention, biosecurity measures, hygiene and sanitation practices, waste management, and practical solutions to field-level challenges through an interactive question-and-answer session.

The initiative aims to strengthen sustainable livelihood opportunities while improving nutrition among children attending Anganwadi Centres by promoting the inclusion of eggs in the hot cooked meals served under nutrition programmes.

By encouraging household-level egg production, the programme seeks to enhance both household income and child nutrition outcomes under the District Nutrition Leadership Program.

The training reflects the commitment of the District Administration and its line departments to promote convergence-based interventions that improve rural livelihoods, food security, and the nutritional well-being of women and children in South West Garo.
