Ampati, June 26:The District Election Officer, South West Garo Hills, has informed that the Election Commission of India (ECI), in exercise of its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution of India and Section 21 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, has directed the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in Meghalaya.
The revision is intended to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the electoral rolls by including all eligible citizens and deleting ineligible entries.
The qualifying date for the revision is October 1, 2026. House-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be carried out from June 30 to July 29, 2026, during which every existing elector will be provided with an Enumeration Form.
Electors are required to complete the form and return one copy to the BLO. An online facility for submission of the Enumeration Form will also be made available during the revision period.
The draft electoral roll will be published on August 5, 2026, followed by the period for filing claims and objections from August 5 to September 4, 2026. After disposal of claims and objections, the final electoral roll will be published on October 7, 2026.
To facilitate the revision process, voter lists from the last Special Intensive Revision conducted in 2005 have been uploaded on the South West Garo Hills district website.
Electors are advised to verify and note their details, including Assembly Constituency, Part Number, and Serial Number, from the 2005 electoral roll.
Those whose names do not appear in the 2005 roll but whose parents’ names are included should provide their parents’ details in the Enumeration Form. No supporting documents are required to be submitted along with the form.
The Election Commission has also initiated the rationalization of polling stations by reducing the maximum number of electors per polling station from 1,500 to 1,200, with the objective of improving voter convenience during elections.
The District Election Officer further informed that regular meetings will be held with recognized political parties to ensure their cooperation in the successful implementation of the Special Intensive Revision.
The first such meeting is scheduled for the coming week to brief political parties on the legal provisions and procedures governing the revision exercise.
The District Election Officer has appealed to all eligible electors to extend full cooperation to Booth Level Officers during the house-to-house verification and to actively participate in the revision process to ensure an accurate, complete, and error-free electoral roll.
