NABARD target to form farmers’ club in every village

Jowai April 21:  National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) is targeting to form at least one farmers’ club in every village in both the east and west Jaintia hills district of Meghalaya said Teidor Thangkhiew District Development Manager NABARD Jaintia hills. Thangkhiew was speaking on the occasion of the formal launching of the Mookyndur farmers’ club Mookyndur village, West Jaintia hills District.

To this date there are only 50 farmers’ club in the about 495 villages in both east and west Jaintia hills district and the Mookyndur farmers’ club in the 51 farmers’ club formed in the aegis of NABARD. Thangkhiew stressed on the need to have a good coordination between the farmers’ clubs sponsored by NABARD and the NGO and in this case the Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) Jaintia hills.

Thangkhiew also said that formation of FC is an attempt to help organize farmers so as to enable them to access to help and support from various government and non-government authority and banks and also to help them gain access to market. Each FC support by NABARD is being issued a unique number and the club is recognized in the whole country.

P. Kharumnuid who is from the KVC which is under the auspices of the Agriculture department informed the farmers of the various activities that KVC is offering to the farmers. KVC organize training both in campus and off campus for farmers, it also helps conduct trial for seeds develop by ICAR for the benefit of the farmers, it conduct demonstration and in case if there is any report of plant disease it conduct research and also offer diagnostic support.

J.Kharmalki branch manager Meghalaya Rural Bank Wahiajer explained about the KCC or the Kissan Credit Card that the farmers can avail at a cheap rate.

Mookyndur village consisted of 184 household and it is about 15 KM from Jowai, the village is famous for tomatoes and the same is being supplied to different part of the North East region said Ebris Pariat. Others who spoke on the occasion were Kyrchan Suting Chief Coordinator of Mookyndur FC, Ebris Pariat members and the meeting was chaired by H.H. Mohrmen president of the Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment, Jaintia hills.(SP News)
