Shillong, June 9: The Non-Teaching Employees’ Association of NEHU has written a letter to Shri Ramesh PokhriyalNishank, Honourable Minister of Education, to kindly forward the name of an able, capable and distinguished academician to the office of the President to allow him at the capacity of the Visitor of NEHU to make an early appointment of a new Vice Chancellor.
The president of NEHUNSA, Dr.Wandondor R. Synremalso stressed upon the urgency of appointment as the extended tenure of the current Vice Chancellor is coming to an end, and as per the Acts and Statutes of NEHU if no regular VC is appointed then the senior most Professor shall have to take up the responsibility as an acting VC and his powers will be limited.
NEHUNSA also pointed out that at present the university is running with limited staff and this could prove to be disastrous for the future of the pioneer University of the region. At present NEHU does not have a regular Controller of examination, no regular Librarian, no regular University Engineer and no regular Director for College Development Council.
The most affected department is the Examination Department as there is only one regular Deputy Registrar, manning the whole department with no supportive Assistant Registrar. It is pertinent to mention that there are 74 colleges affiliated with NEHU, and any failure on the part of the examination department due to shortage of staff could put the career of thousands of students in jeopardy.
As a matter of fact the whole University system might come to a standstill or even to the extent of collapsing due to the skeletal strength of the non-teaching employees. There are a number of posts lying vacant which only a regular Vice Chancellor can do the needful for the recruitment process which in turn would generate employment for the Educated Unemployed youths.
Based on these arguments NEHUNSA is compelled to directly request the Honourable Minister of Education to kindly do the needful for an early appointment of a new Vice Chancellor for NEHU.
