No Government program should be held on the religious day of any religion: Erwin

Shillong, April, 13 :Mr Conrad Sangma MP, National President of the National Peoples’ Party (NPP) has written to the hon’ble Prime Minister on the matter of declaration of the 1st Digital India Day on the 14th April 2017 which is also Good Friday one of the holiest day of the Christians. Mr Erwin  whole heartedly support his request that the celebrations be deferred since by this action our religious sentiments are outraged and constitutional rights are being violated.

After due deliberations of the constitutional issues, “I am convinced that the Government of India in its enthusiasm to spur India on the path of  a  digital society has maybe inadvertently subverted the secular foundations of the Constitution of India which could be a cause of legal action. However when the fact that “Good Governance Day” has also been declared on Christmas Day then  the trend can only be termed not in consonance with  the Constitution of India. We should remember that India was formed in 1950 when our ancestors joined bringing into India under the Constitution of India, our tribes and peoples, our religions, our cultures and traditions as well our complete trust in a system of laws that till now have not yet failed us”.

In view of the serious constitutional ramifications and repercussions that can arise,” I am consulting on this matter with my brother Advocate Associates in the Supreme Court of India because no Government program should be held on the religious day of any religion of the people of India and as per the conditions and guarantees of our supreme unifier, the Constitution of India of India, the vested agenda of any particular group or party no matter if they are in overwhelming majority cannot take away our sanctified rights. Just as I would not deny the rights of the minorities in Meghalaya, if required I will seek appropriate legal remedy even from the highest Court of the land to rectify the situation and protect all rights violated” said Mr Erwin K Syiem Sutnga. In the press statement.
