“Plant based sources for Homoeopathic Medicines” discussed at WH Day

Shillong  April 11: The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH), an autonomous institute under Ministry of AYUSH, Mawdiangdiang, Shillong celebrated “World Homoeopathy Day” on 10th April,2017 along with Oration Programme, to mark the 262nd Birth Anniversary of Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (Founder of Homoeopathy) in the Institute Campus  under the theme Enhancing the quality of Research in Homoeopathy”.

In this function, Prof. R. Sharma, Dean, School of Life Sciences, NEHU, Shillong graced the occasion as the Chief Guest in lighting the lamp in the presence of Prof.(Dr.) P.K.Goswami, Director, NEIAH, Prof. (Dr.) P Bhattacharyya, Director, NEIGRIHMS and Prof .(Dr.) Neeraj Gupta, HOD, Department of Organon of Medicine, Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, New Delhi.

In his inaugural speech Prof. R Sharma commented on the Institute as being one of the first institutes having two disciplines of AYUSH together under one institute  and that this is a great advantage to the North East especially Meghalaya. He further stated that it was a wonder how Dr. Samuel Hahnemann had discovered the use of a medicinal plant, the bark of a cinchona, in the treatment of malaria way before the discovery of DNA by Watson and Crick. He further stated the need of developing Geriatric Medicine by molding the three medical disciplines into this and how the Ayush system would play an important role in this.

On the occasion, two eminent Homoeopathic Physicians from the North East Region were felicitated for their contribution in the field of Homoeopathy. These physicians being Dr. S. Bamon,  Ex-Faculty Member of Regional Health and Family Welfare Training Centre, Shillong, Meghalaya and Dr. Paresh Sharma, Ex-Principal, SJN Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, Guwahati.

Other Dignatories present in this occasion also delivered speech.  Prof. P Bhattacharyya, Director, NEIGRIHMS was also present as one of the respected dignitaries and he shared his personal experience using homoeopathic treatment. Prof. (Dr.) PK Goswami also gave an introductory speech on this occasion.

The inaugural function was followed by a scientific programme in which, Prof.(Dr.) Neeraj Gupta, HOD, Department of Organon of Medicine, Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital, New Delhi was the Keynote Speaker for the session. He delivered a lecture on the theme “Enhancing the quality of research in Homoeopathy”.

Dr. A.A.Mao, Regional Director, Botanical Survey of India, Eastern Complex, Shillong; who was the Invited Speaker on the occasion, delivered a lecture on the topic “Plant based sources for Homoeopathic Medicines”. Dr. S.K.Jha, Assistant Professor, Department of Statistics, NEHU, Shillong; who was also an Invited Speaker on the occasion, delivered a lecture on the topic “Enhancing quality and adoption of suitable procedures for conducting research”.
