Shillong, Feb 22: The Rotary Club of Shillong installed and commissioned two sets of manually operated Sanitary Pad Vending machines at two schools in the city, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Pynthorbah, Shillong and Sacred Heart Girls Higher Secondary School, Mawlai, Shillong. This project was sanctioned under the District Grant 2019–2020 of the Rotary International.

This particular sanitary pad vending machine contains about 25 (twenty five) biodegradable sanitary pads which can be dispensed by putting a five rupees coin. Being manually operated, it can be conveniently installed at any location.

Along with the sanitary vending machine, there is also an Incinerator which can incinerate the used / soiled, sanitary pad by simply using any items supporting combustion like newspaper etc. with low production of Ash.

Considering that the topic on Health, Hygiene and Menstruation amongst adolescent girls is normally not discussed much but  rather considered as a taboo in certain part of the country.

The Rotary Club of Shillong with the support of the Rotary International District 3240 has paved the path by providing the basic necessity such as vending machines and incinerators to two schools and if this is successful,  it willbe provided  to many other schools in the Urban, Sub-Urban and Rural areas.
