Sanjonggre and Daronggre villages of SWGH District are high incidence of infant deaths

Ampati, April 5: The District Health & Family Welfare Bureau under the banner of National Health Mission, South west Garo Hills, conducted two separate Outreach Health Camps, one at Sanjonggre under Gopinathkilla Sub-Centre and another at Daronggre under Mellim PHC, recently.

Sanjonggre and Daronggre villages are located in the remotest and inaccessible parts of the district with high incidence of infant deaths and high refusal cases for immunization as most of the villagers are illiterate.

As many as 300 people, mostly mothers, expectant mothers and children highly benefitted from these health camps. Senior doctors from the district and medical officers from higher facilities conducted free check up and various tests and also gave counseling on family planning, spacing methods. Adolescents were also given health education and counseling on substance abuse and early pregnancy.

The sessions in both the villages were followed up with fruitful interactions between the nokmas, Church leaders and influential leaders of adjoining villages, awakening their ownership to health and sanitation.
