Shillong, Aug 11: The2 days XIIth Meghalaya State Wushu C’ship 2014 came to an end on the 9th Aug 2014 with Shri Sanjay Goyal Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District and Shri Vivek Syiem SP City Shillong as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Shri Goyal while stressing the importance of sports in the state for the youth of today, emphasis that sports also plays an importance role in nation building.
He is happy that Wushu and other martial arts forms have come up in Meghalaya and informed the C’ship that it will be primarily the role of the Gov’t to supports such kind of programme where youth can come together and get themselves exposes their talents so that they can in turn take part in other regional and national levels of championships.
Shri Vivek Syiem being a police is happy to see how girl athletes have shown their strength and techniques while sparring in the ring which in turn can help to prevent and protect themselves as well as others as crime rates against have gone up in the state.
It will be better if girls and women come forward to take up martial arts for self defense techniques. Shri L P Warjri announced that all martial arts athletes will be called forward to take part in the training on Para-Legal so that martial arts athletes can do well not only in self defense but also in helping and protect legally the fairer sex in distress in the society. Shri Donny Ranee President while giving the vote of thanks expressed that Wushu will soon be introduced in other districts of Meghalaya.(SP News)
