Shillong, April 09: St. Anthony’s defeated Shillong Secondary School by 38 runs and St. Xaviers School defeated Laitumkhrah Bengalee School by 75 runs in the opening matches of Inter School Cricket Tournament organised by the Shillong Cricket Association in collaboration with District Sports Office, East Khasi Hills at the Cricket Ground, Polo.
Electing to bat first after winning the toss St. Anthony’s scored 138 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in alloted 25 overs. Abhishek scored 31 runs of 42 balls. While Rupan Deb took 3/25 runs of 5 overs. In reply, Shillong Secondary were dismissed for 108 runs in 24.2 overs. Ajoy Barua scored 22 runs of 23 balls. While Abhishek took 2/4 runs of 4 overs.
In the second match of the day St. Xaviers School defeated Laitumkhrah Bengalee School by 75 runs. St. Xaviers won the toss and decided to bat first. They scored 144 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 25 overs. Bikash Prasad scored a half century of 58 runs of 58 balls and Aryan Borah scored 31 runs of 57 balls. While Lahunmiki Myria took 2/29 runs of 5 overs. In reply, Laitumkhrah Bengalee School were all out for just 69 runs in 13.1 overs. Ravi Shah took 3/20 runs of 3 overs.
The tournament was inaugurated by Shri R.G.Lyngdoh, Vice Chancellor, MLCU and President MSOA and MTTA. Meanwhile Shri Naba Bhattacharjee informed the gathering that the BCCI has approved the proposal of MCA for an Indoor Cricket Facilities in the state.(SP News)
