The Army shot death Ramesh Bora who held self-styled rank of Surgeon major in ULFA(I)

Shillong, May 19: Troops of Red Horns Division under Gajraj Corps of the Indian Army launched a joint operation on 17 and 18 May  with Udalguri police based on specific input in order to nab suspected ULFA(I) cadre in village Nalkhamara and  Sonaripara in Udalguri district.

As the Army columns reached the village, the suspected individual was challenged and asked to surrender but he fled and opened fire on the Army column and threw a grenade. In retaliatory fire, the cadre was eliminated.

The individual was identified as Ramesh Bora who held self-styled rank of Surgeon major in ULFA (I) and was wanted in Udalguri and Darrang districts for various atrocities and illegal activities.

The individual was trained in Mayanmar and was from 2006 batch. After the operation, one 9 mm Pistol (FM) with six live rounds and approximately six lakhs Indian currency was recovered from him.

The neutralisation of Ramesh Bora is a major setback to the already flagging morale of ULFA(I) and assist in establishing lasting peace in Udalguri and Darrang districts.
