The BSF DIG receives President Medal for distinguished service

Shillong, January 28: Dr. Sabu A. Joseph, Deputy Inspector General of BSF Ftr HQr, Meghalaya has been decorated with the President’s police medal for distinguished service on the eve of Republic day 2017 by the President of India. The officer in recognition to his impeccable integrity, high degree of professionalism, dedication, complete devotion to duty and unblemished service of over 30 years.

The officer joined Border Security Force as Assistant Commandant in Sept 1984. During his service he remained deployed in Tripura, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Punjab, J&K on LOC and in CI duty during peak militancy. He led many operations without caring for his personal security in the toughest terrains & extremely challenging conditions and was instrumental in eliminating several militants along with seizure of large quantities of arms and ammunition. During operation Parakram, he commanded 14 Bn BSF and the Battalion under his leadership had the rare distinction of holding defences independently in one of the most sensitive sub – sectors in Ferozepur to fight Pakistan. The Battalion ensured zero error in Punjab and matched the Indian Army Battations in all areas.

The Officer also served as Commanant (Ordnance) in Force HQ, CENWOSTO and in TSU as GM. Under his exemplary leadership, he induct various state of the art weapons and equipment in force. During his posting in Tear Smoke Unit (TSU) due to his best efforts unit was achieve global standards. His relentless efforts and high level of professionalism resulted in increase of production of munitions by over three times and in reducing the cost of products about 35%. 40 new types of tear smoke munitions were also developed and introduced. This unit is awarded by ISO certification 14001 full environmental management.

The Officer underwent various courses and stood first in many of them. He holds Masters Degree in Techonology, Business Administration and Ph D. in Management. He is also a Senior Armament, Ammunition and Missiles Techinical Officer (SAATO). For his unblemished service and outstanding track record, he was awarded the Police Medal for Meritorious Service (PPMS) on the occasion of Republic Day 2008.

He is presently posted as Principal Staff Officer, HQ Meghalaya Frontier, BSF, Shillong. The Officer ensured welfare of jawans and an efficient grievance redressal on top priority. Improvement of environment was always on top of his agenda.
