The BSF seizes Saree and betle nut from Umsyiem that smuggled to Bangladesh

Shillong, June 09: The BSF troops once again showing alertness on Indo-Bangladesh border seized a huge consignment of clothes while being smuggled into Bangladesh from India. The vigilant BSF troops deployed at Umsyiem in East Khasi Hills Distt of Meghalaya noticed a suspected movement with several packets near the international border.

They immediately rushed towards the spot to verify the activity. The persons who were attempting to smuggle the packets on seeing BSF troops ran away. The BSF troops searched and packets thoroughly and recovered more than 1400 sarees worth approximate  Rs. 31 lacs. These sarees were being smuggled from unfenced area of Umsyiem.

In another incident, the BSF troops deployed at Pyrdwah, East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya seized another huge consignment of Betel nut. The BSF troops observed some suspicious movement near International Border where few smugglers was carrying head loads towards International Border with intension to cross over to Bangladesh from India side.

The special operation party of BSF laid a trap in a thickly vegetated area. Before the smugglers could succeed in their nefarious activity, brave Jawans cordoned off the area and recovered a considerable number bags of betel nut i.e 2340 Kgs worth more than Rs. 7 lacs.  However the smugglers managed to flee taking advantage of darkness and thick vegetation.

The involvement of local criminals with Bangladeshi smugglers has always been a great cause of concern for the border guards. The smugglers on both the sides on Indo-Bangladesh border are continuously in touch and keep tracking the movement of BSF patrols to find chance to smuggle the  consignment  to Bangladesh. Still BSF troops have made considerable seizures to foil such attempts by these criminals.
