Shillong, February 06: The Central Silk Board today holds Mini Resham Krishi Mela at Lawsohtun research Extension centre for the farmers of the Khasi Hills region, Speaking as the Chief quest the MDC from Laban Mr Ricky Shullai appreciated the work of the board to help the farmers in this region, in order to help the people to earn their livelihood.
Mr Shullai said that he is not acquainted with the subject but what he understand the Central Silk Board is encouraging the formers of this Khasi region to improve the quality cloth production, rearing silk and to produce cocoon. He urged the farmer’s community to take advantage and this as their profession.
The Director of the Central Silk Board incharge of Eastern India, Smti Kanika Trivedi in her address stresses the farmers to increase their silk production to 60 kg average from SK-6 X SK-7 and from Bicon-1 x Bicon-4. She also asked the Director Sericulture and weaving Government of Meghalaya who is also present in the mela to write to Chairman of the CSB for purchasing Automatic Railing Machines (ARM) at the subsidies rate of 75 PC.
The Director CSR&TI acknowledge the skill of the framers of the Khasi Hills region, what they need is to improve the quality of production by taking advantage of the new machines that the CSB is providing at the very high subsidies rate, if the farmers are finding to put in the margin money let the state government bear the margin cost.
In this Mela the farmers who has done well in this filed were awarded with the certificate of application, the formers who received the award are Smti Blossom Nongrum, Emai Pyrtuh both from Jaintia Hills District, Smti Bitalion Nongneng and Mr Wankmen Thabah from East Khasi Hills District. The framers who attended the Mela are around 50 people from the Khasi Jiantia Hills Region. The Meeting was chair by Dr Collin Rynthlei.
