The Chief Minister Dr Mukul inaugurates Jengjal Police station WGH District

Tura, June 22:  Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma inaugurated the new Jengjal Police Station at an impressive function today at Jengjal Secondary School Playground. He also unveiled the foundation stone for construction of road from 67th KM of National Highway- 51 to Bawegre via St. Anthony’s Secondary School Baljek Agal on the occasion.

The function was attended by Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Zenith Sangma, Forest and Environment Minister, Clement Marak, Parliamentary Secretaries Noverfield R Marak, Brigady N Marak, Ashahel D Shira, Chairperson, SDRC Bluebell R Sangma, Vice-Chairman MTDC P K Sangma, Director General of Police, Meghalaya Shillong Dr. S B Singh, DIG, Western Range, Mukesh Singh and host of other dignitaries, including officials of Police Department , District Administration and officials of various departments, besides the Nokmas, teachers, students and people from the area.

In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude for being able to share his happiness on this momentous occasion and said that the government has been able to create enabling environment and respond to the aspirations and expectations of the people through its various developmental initiatives. “Creation of new police stations and outposts is a part of government’s agenda of addressing the developmental disparities across the state and bringing the administration closer to the people’s doorsteps.

Dedicating the police station to the people of the area, the Chief Minister said that it would immensely help the people of the area, who otherwise had to spend a lot of time and money to travel to Tura even for minor cases. The government notification upgrading Jengjal Outpost to a Police Station was read by Deputy Commissioner West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi and handed it over to the Officer-incharge, N K Nair. The police station will cover 53 villages upto Bajengdoba in the north and Dadenggre in the west.

The Chief Minister also felicitated the wholesalers and Fair Price Shop dealers of West Garo Hills district including Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division as a token of appreciation by the State Government for their contribution in successfully implementing the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013 in the district. Acknowledging the difficulties faced by the wholesalers FPS dealers in handling and transportation of essential commodities to the beneficiaries, he informed the gathering that the state government has sanctioned Rs.30.45 crore in March this year to be given to all the wholesalers and FPS dealers in the State as handling and transportation charges.

During the function, the Chief Minister along with other cabinet ministers also distributed the trophies and certificates to the winners of quiz competition which was held earlier for the school students.

Parliamentary Secretary, Incharge Urban Affairs, Noverfield R Marak, DIG Dr. S B Singh, Superintendent of Police, West Garo Hills Tura, Ragavendra Kumar were among others who also spoke on the occasion.
