Shillong, 29 March, 2014: To make the people understand the importance of exercising their right to franchise and to come out in large number to cast their vote during election, the office of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills, Shillong today the 29th March, 2014 organised special kite flying show for the kids and kite flying competition for all eligible voters at Golflinks, Shillong.
The day long programme also includes air show, mawpoint and phawer competition, lighting of 1001 lights and flying of LED kites. Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills Mr. Sanjay Goyal handed the certificate and cash prize to the winners Mr. Johny Kharkongor who bagged the first prize in kite flying competition, Mr. Anthony Nongkhlaw and Mr. Y. Sun in second and third prize respectively. In the Mawpoint competition the winner is Seng Khasi Pynthor A and the runner up is Seng Khasi Pynthor B while the third prize goes to Leslee and Group. Mr. Banker Kharkongor got the first prize in Phawer competition while the second and third goes to CTE, PGT, Shillong and Mr. Banteilang S. Nongdhar respectively. The winner in every competition got Rs. 10000/- for the first prize, Rs. 7000/- and Rs.5000/- for the second and third respectively.
The special attraction of the day is the performance of the Shillong Chamber Choir and magic show by John Lanong to entertain the people and participants during the events. People also throng at various food stalls installed at the venue apart from Games stalls and other activities. There was also interaction with the people and awareness campaign through the democracy van.(SP News)
