Department of Dentistry NEIGRIHMS Drive to Improve Oral Health Care in Tribal Population

Shillong, Nov 22: The Department of Dentistry NEIGRIHMS, Shillong organized a 3 Day workshop from 12th to 14th November, 2022 on “Oral Health care in tribal population of North East India.

The workshop was graced by Chief Guest Prof (Dr) G. K. Medhi (Dean-NEIGRIHMS), Guest of honour Dr. L. Swasticharan (Addl. DDG & Director (EMR) MoHFW, GOI), Prof (Dr.) C. Daniella (Medical Superintendent NEIGRIHMS) and Prof. N. Tasse (Principal College of Nursing-NEIGRIHMS).

Resource Experts Dr. Vikrant Mohanty from Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences-New Delhi, Dr. Nandita Kshetrimayum from Regional Institute of Medical Sciences-Manipur, Dr. Kavipriya Outtamane State Nodal Officer Puducherry State Health Mission and Dr. Ankita Piplani (Consultant NOHP, MoHFW) enriched the participants with their knowledge and approach to improve oral health care.

State Nodal Officers from North Eastern States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya also attended the workshop.

This workshop highlighted the challenges faced by the North Eastern States, Strategies for overcoming the challenges by proper policy making and aims at achieving the goal for maintaining good oral health at the grass root level.

A Health Camp was held on 14th November 2022 at Tyrna Village Meghalaya as part of the workshop. Prof. (Dr) S. Vijay Singh HOD Dentistry Department, NEIGRIHMS along with his team conducted clinical examinations for every participant along with distribution of medicines, toothpastes and toothbrushes. The camp was highly appreciated by the local population who benefited from it.
