Shillong, June 24: The District Magistrate, West Jaintia Hills District, Jowai has promulgated an order under Section 144 Cr Pc prohibiting Bull fighiting and gambling in the entire District Particularly in villages falling under Mihmyntdu, Ialong and Niawmer (7thMile).
The order was issued in view of the complaints received from the public and also conduct of such trade in respects is harmful to the physical comfort of the community.
Therefore, the office of the District Magistrate had earlier issued public notice which states that any act or trade of Bull fighting and gambling would attract legal provision and which is in contravention of the Meghalaya provision of Gambling Act 1970 under section 133 Cr Pc and it appears that there is no improvement and the situation is required to be curtailed and cheaked that such trade or occupation which is illegal are not to continue.
This order has come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.(SP News)
