The District Police started late night Nakas to check drunken driving in the festive season

Shillong, December 23: The District Police has started late night Nakas from 22.12.2016 to check drunken driving in preparation for the festive season. 11(Eleven) cases of drunken driving were detected and Non FIR Case is being taken against such erring drivers. In the past, a number of conviction of Non FIR Cases have been passed by the Court which imposed fine of Rs.5000/-( Rupees five thousand) and impounding of the driver’s license for a period of 6(six) months. The driver license is then deposited with the District Transport Officer. Sometimes a jail sentence is also passed.

The police urges the public not to drive after having consumed alcohol as they not only put their lives at stake but also the life of other innocent people. Police request the cooperation of all public in its endeavour though it may cause some inconvenience to them as the same is being done to ensure the safety of all public during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year Celebrations.
