Shillong, March 21: The Office of the District Medical & Health Officer, East Khasi Hills, under the National Programme for Palliative Care (NPPC), NHM, has conducted a “10 Days Foundation Training Course on Palliative Care” for the Medical Officers and Staff Nurses of the CHCs, PHCs and State Dispensaries of East Khasi Hills.
The training commenced on the 7th March 2022 and ended on 18th March 2022 at KJP Conference Hall, Shillong. Dr. S.S. Nongbri (Addl. Director of Health Services, Research Cum State Nodal Officer, NPPC) graced the function as the Chief Guest and Dr. A. Lyngdoh (District Medical & Health Officer) as the Guest of Honour.
World Health organization says that – ‘Palliative care is a way of looking at the incurable patients in a way that improves the quality of life of patients and their families. It helps prevent and relieve suffering by early recognition and treatment of pain and other physical, psychosocial and spiritual problems.’
The key resource persons were Dr. A. Mawlong (Oncologist HOD, Civil Hospital, Shillong, Dr. Vikas K. Jagtap Associate Professor & HOD incharge Radiotherapy and Oncology Department NEIGRIHMS,Dr. F.J Momin&Dr. D. L Nongrum Oncologist, Civil Hospital, Shillong.
Dr. M. Surong Anaesthetist, Civil Hospital, Shillong), Dr. D. P. Syiem (Pomlum PHC, Clinical Psychologist, Dietician, Physiotherapist and others fromthe District Hospital and Health & Wellness Centres of East Khasi Hills, Shillong.
The primary focus of the training course is to provide the Medical Officers and Nurses with basic palliative care skills so that patients residing within the vicinity of their health facility can avail the services.
The training rounded off with certificates being awarded to all the trainers and trainees who have attended the training followed by a speech from Dr. S. Khonglah (Addl. District Medical & Health Officer) and a vote of thanks from Dr. R. R. Marak (District Nodal Officer, NPPC)
