The financial health of Meghalaya is improving: Dr Mukul

Shillong, June 11: Replying to the discussion on the budget, chief minister Mukul Sangma said today that the financial health of Meghalaya was improving with the state having generated considerable amount of revenue on its own, instead of just depending on Central grants.

Dwelling on several sectors, including health and education, the chief minister said the government was reviewing its investment strategy to meet with the shortfalls in human development index.

Pointing out that construction of infrastructure, including roads continue to remain a priority with the government, he said special programmes have been initiated to connect remote rural areas with all-weather roads. Towards this aim, an amount of one crore is being provided annually to each of the 39 blocks in the state he said. He added that every block would black-top at least 4 kilometers of road under the project.

He stressed on streamlining existing state and Central flagship programmes in order to create job avenues. He pointed out that training centres were being set up at village levels in order to check migration of youth from rural to urban areas. (SP News)
