Tura, July 17: The Garo Students’ Union, Southern Zone Baghmara, they will be submitting their memorandum to the Chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma and the power minister demanding from the state government that the government should set up the Me.ECL Division at Baghmara.
The South Garo Hills District depen for power supply from the Division of Williamnagar, East Garo Hills District is becoming unreliable and resentful, as the necessity supply of infrastructures are becoming limited. Setting up of Division at Baghmara should have to be both for Revenue and the Distribution for the efficient maintenance of power supply.
Since Baghmara is also an older District in the history of Meghalaya apart from Ampati, Resu Belpara and others in Khasi Hills. The population of South Garo Hills District is growing day by day, year after year. More or less like the population of East Garo Hills, Williamnagar. Thus, Williamnagar Division holds no more good position to supervise the South Garo Hills District in functioning of the office, supply of infrastucture and the distribution of power supply as well.
The GSU said feel that the 33 KV existing line connectivity from Nangal Bibra to Baghmara is maintaining for more than 30 years. The life span of this scheme is already over and it is likely to collapse or breakdown at anytime. yes, it has been witnessed of breakdown that it occured more than 20 times or more in a year. Moreover, the line connection from Nangal bibra to Baghmara is a difficult terrain, tough to maintain by the department and prone to breakdown in every monsoon season. Therefore, the under signatories demand for immediate reaction to this problem and resolve the matter by implementing the Tower Line connection.
The pointed out that existing staff of Baghmara Me.ECL Sub-Division has also facing shortage of vehicles. At the moment, the Sub-Division Baghmara is only maintaining with the 2 nos. of vehicles only which they are facing heavy burden on restoring the power into normalcy. As the Baghmara Sub-Division is presently looking after three (3) different areas viz; Chokpot, Rongara, Siju and into some extent they have look after Gasuapara area if there is a power breakdown. With this insufficient facility we are facing inefficient power supply in the District.
The people of South Garo Hills are facing the consequences of its failure, it has affecting many different level of categories such as; power interruption at night during the examination of students which is extremely heartbroken, emergency official works remain pending due to the unstability of power, power unstability creates sudden heavy load resulting damages of electronic materials across the town etc. Thus, to avoid such a loss and grievances the successive measures should be taken by Me.ECL Department at Baghmara.
The message from the student body from South Garo Hills is loud and clear that the government should set up the Me.ECL Division at Baghmara is a paramount subject which is a must. And the upgradation of staff, Tower Line connectivity, infrastucture and vehicles by Me.ECL Baghmara are also important priorities for the execution of works in the large area of South Garo Hills District.
On the other hand, the under signatories would also like to express its grave concerned that Chokpot is the largest area in South Garo Hills District. This particular area has very poor communication system. It has poor road and communication facility, poor networking system and the vast distance to look after by the existing Sub-Division staff of Baghmara with insufficient staff, infrastructures and vehicles.
Thus, the frequent power fluctuation and heavy connection breakdown are incurring at a regular basis at Chokpot Block. Therefore Sir, we, the under signatories would like to beseech in a most aggrieved concerned that the setting up of Me.ECL Sub-Division Office at Chokpot Block is a high time. It has becoming mandatory while assessing to the grass root condition.
