Tura, February 16: The GSU members of Southern Zone today met the official of the Publice Health Engineering Department in Baghmara regarding the present water crisis in Baghmara Town. In this meeting the GSU ask what are the difficulties for proper water supply, the Junior Engineer replied that the water pipeline connection from siju to Rongdong has been stealing by the localities which they need to ensure seeking help from the police.
Water pipelines have also illegally utilizing by the same localities. During the visit, the GSU members are extremely unhappy about the absence of Executive Engineer and the SDO, which they are the right officials to the problems of water supply in the South Garo Hills District.
The official also inform the GSU delegation that, the water pump of Baghmara Urban Water Supply set up at Baghmara Simsang River is presently not functioning. According to the concerned department they have dispatched the machinery for repairing work which possibly it will be done within this month. Streams may dried up but the simsang river will not if the concerned department have responsibly function the water pump which could provide sufficient water supply to each and every households in Baghmara Town.
In this regards, GSU condemn the P.H.E. Department for continuously failing to provide adequate water supply in the District. GSU also decided to write the letter to P.He. Minister of Meghalaya for the present water crisis for his kind intervention and action. If the problems still continues in Baghmara then the GSU will have to resort agitation as there will be no other options left; GSU informed.The concerned department needs to tackle the problems immediately.
